Welfare Rights Advice And Information Volunteer:
Role
- Provice basic welfare rights advice within your knowledge and ability.
- Assist client with form filling.
- Assist in maximising income for clients.
- Benefit checks using the Lisson Grove Benefit Program.
- Issue appropriate benefit leaflet.
- Supply of budgeting loan forms.
- Supply grants forms and crisis loan forms.
- Providing information on other agencies appropriate to welfare rights/debt advice.
- General information and advice.
- Help complete social fund applications.
Training
A training programme appropriate for this post will be provided and new volunteers will be required to have completed this training. Ongoing training opportunities will be provided where appropriate. Due to the nature of the service being provided it is a condition of this voluntary role that no more than 1 session is missed over the duration of the training. Volunteers will be contacted in writing if they miss a training session and remind of the commitment needed. If further training is missed the volunteer will lose their place on the training and will have to forgo this opportunity.
Please speak to the volunteer co-ordinator, in advance if possible if you are experiencing any problems with training.
Your Time Commitment
It is a condition of this role that, upon completion of disclosure check and training, volunteers commit to a 2 hour duty per week to CLASP.
Outreach Surgeries
It is CLASP's aim to have 7 outreach surgeries as well as 4 inhouse surgeries for welfare rights per week. It will be part of your commitment to cover one of these 2 hour surgeries. Expenses to the outreach will be provided, we always aim to link volunteers with venues that suit them.
Disclosures
This role is subject to a disclosure check.
